Our second match against Tuskers was last weekend. CAPS Warriors had lost the prior match against this team and hence wanted to get back with a good win.
This was a must win match for CAPS Warriors, as that would secure their #1 spot in the playoffs. They also needed to figure out the strategy to beat Tuskers, as there is a high probability that these two teams will meet in the playoffs. So they decided to bat first on winning the toss. The goal here was to put on a decent total and pressure Tusker batsman.
Having chosen to bat first, CAPS Warriors needed their batsman to deliver a good start and a good total. Unfortunately, that did not materialize due to the excellent spin attack by Kaushik Attuluri. Most of the top order batsman for CAPS Warriors did not trouble the scorer much. Sanat Misra kept the fight on with his bat but fell to an awesome ball by Pranav Kannepalli, scoring just 24 runs.
As the team was losing hope, Aarya Sane came to the rescue with some flamboyant batting. He batted confidently scoring 20* runs and moving the CAPS Warriors total to a respectable 106 runs in 25 overs. Thanks to Aarya Sane‘s batting our team’s hopes came alive.
CAPS Warriors have disciplined balling attack, so they were confident that they would be able to defend the total. They just needed to get some quick wickets and put pressure on Tuskers. The plan seem to work but for the constant wides and the occasional short balls that went to the boundary. Tuskers were cruising to their victory, till the point Sanat Misra took two wickets in an over. Subsequently, Aarya Sane and Ishaan Taj took two wickets each to put CAPS Warriors back in the game. With 7 wickets down, it seemed like an uphill task for Tuskers to win this match.
This is when CAPS Warriors needed to deliver some disciplined bowling, while Tuskers batsman need to put their head down and wait for the bad balls. This was a perfect testing time for both sides. CAPS Warriors could not live up to the test as they kept delivering those occasional short balls, which were dispatched to the boundaries by Tuskers.
In the end, Tuskers won the match with 10 balls to spare. This was a tough loss for CAPS Warriors, but I am sure they have learned their lesson. Man of the Match was Kaushik Attuluri for his excellent bowling spell. Here is the link for the scorecard https://cricclubs.com/SeattleYouthCricketLeague/fullScorecard.do?matchId=26&clubId=10669
